The webinar email trap
Zoom itself is not the spam problem – the registration form is. Every "free webinar", product demo and virtual summit you register for feeds your address straight into a sales pipeline: the reminder emails, then the replay link, then the "did you have any questions?" sequence, then the SDR who emails every Tuesday for a month. Marketers openly treat webinar registrations as lead generation, which is precisely why they demand an email before showing you anything.

First, check whether you need an email at all
For a normal Zoom meeting, you usually don't. If someone sends you a join link, you can click it, enter any display name, and join from the browser or app without a Zoom account. Registration-required webinars are the exception: the host demands a name and email, and Zoom sends your personal join link to that address.

What works and what doesn't

- Do not use a disposable address for a paid Zoom plan, or for the account your employer manages. Billing receipts, security alerts and SSO recovery need a mailbox that stays alive.
- Some hosts gate attendance manually and reject obviously anonymous registrations for small, invite-only sessions. For a 500-person marketing webinar, nobody checks.
Replays, slides and the second harvest
The follow-up email with the recording is the second data harvest: "watch the replay" links often lead to another gated page that re-confirms your address is alive and clicking. With a disposable address, grab what you need early – the replay link usually arrives within a day, while your temp inbox is still active. Open it, save the slides or bookmark the recording page, and let the rest of the sequence fall into the void. If the replay arrives after your inbox expired, re-register for the replay page with a fresh temp address; hosts almost never notice or care.
A note on etiquette
Using a temp mail here is privacy, not fraud: you are declining a marketing list, not sneaking into a paid event. If a webinar is genuinely valuable and you want the slides afterwards, nothing stops you from sharing your real address with that one organiser later – on your terms, not as the price of entry. Will the join link still work if my temp inbox expired?
Yes. The link itself is issued by Zoom and stays valid for the event; the inbox only matters for receiving it. Copy it out as soon as it arrives.
Can I host meetings with an account created on a temp mail?
Yes, free accounts work – group meetings are capped at 40 minutes. Just remember there is no password recovery once the address is gone, so don't attach anything important to that account.
Do webinar hosts see my email address?
Yes, hosts can export the registrant list – name, email, and answers to any registration questions – and most connect it straight to their CRM. That is exactly why a disposable address is the right tool for one-off registrations.
What about Zoom's own marketing emails?
Creating any Zoom account opts you into product emails unless you untick the boxes. On a disposable account it simply doesn't matter – another list that can't follow you home.
